Wish you could spend more time with your parents and have them stay in Australia with you? Parent Visas for Perth, Sydney, Melbourne or anywhere in Australia could help make this possible for you and your family.

Australia has several Parent Visa options to reunite with your parents, either for a temporary stay or permanently. Eligibility requirements apply, but generally, if you are an Australian citizen/permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen, you may have options to apply for a Parent Visa Perth.

Read on to find out more about the options or get in touch with Interstaff’s registered migration agents for more information about Parent Visas Perth.

Permanent Parent Visas to Australia, including Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and more

Australia offers several Parent Visa options which provide permanent residence. The Subclass 103 and Subclass 804 Aged Parent Visas allow your parent to work and study in Australia. These visas are capped and only a limited number of visas are available each year. This has resulted in extremely long queues for these parent visas and it may take a few decades to be granted. In contrast, the Subclass 864 and 143 Contributory Parent Visas are processed more quickly, but these options attract significantly higher Government fees.

Temporary Parent Visas to Perth or anywhere in Australia

Australia’s temporary Parent Visa may provide a more cost-effective and timely option for families to spend time with their parents. The Subclass 870 Temporary Parent Visa allows eligible migrants to sponsor their parents to stay in Australia for five years, with the option to renew for a maximum ten years.

Parents are not allowed to work or study while on this visa and it does not provide a pathway to permanent residence, however the Temporary Parent Visa is more cost-effective than the Contributory Parent Visa option. It is also expected to have much shorter Government processing times than the Subclass 103 and 804 Parent Visas.

Another benefit of the Temporary Parent Visa option is the ability for your parents to stay for much longer than a standard Visitor Visa, without needing to travel outside the country to reapply. Read more of our insights here.

Can I sponsor my parents to live in Australia?

The visa options that may be available to your parents will depend on several factors including:

  • Your eligibility to sponsor your parents – this is based on whether you can meet health requirements, financial obligations, and other sponsorship criteria;
  • Your parent’s age and whether they can meet the health and character requirements;
  • Whether your parents have health insurance and access to enough funds to support their stay in Australia;
  • Whether your parent will be applying for the Parent Visa from within or outside of Australia, as this has an impact on the visa requirements;
  • How many of your siblings permanently live in Australia – this is your ability to meet the Balance of Family Test, which applies to most Parent Visas and assesses the proportion of children living permanently in Australia.

There are different eligibility requirements to meet, depending on the type of Parent Visa. A Parent Visa application will require you to provide evidence of how your personal and family circumstances can satisfy various financial and social factors.

What if I do not meet the Balance of Family Test?

Most of Australia’s permanent Parent Visas to Perth or anywhere in the country, require you to meet a Balance of Family test. This assesses the proportion of children living permanently in Australia, therefore your sibling’s living arrangements will impact whether you can meet the test requirements.

As an exception, the Temporary Parent Subclass 870 Visa does not require a Balance of Family test. If you are unable to meet the Balance of Family test you may wish to explore this visa option as it may be available to families who would not otherwise meet the requirements for a Parent Visa.
