If you need to migrate to Australia to care for a relative with a long term or permanent medical condition, you may be eligible to apply for a Carer Visa.
Your eligibility depends on a number of different factors including:
- Whether you meet the health and character requirements
- The medical condition of the person in need of care
- Whether the person in need of care is an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen
- Whether there are any other relatives in Australia who can provide the required care or whether the person in need is able to access health services in Australia for the level of care they require
It’s important to know the Australian Government caps the number of Carer Visas granted each year, which results in a very long processing times for this visa. There are also a number of visa conditions and obligations to be aware of both throughout the visa application process as well as once a Carer Visa has been granted.
