Visa Tools for Employers

Embracing global mobility brings clear advantages – it enables you to attract and retain skilled employees for positions that are difficult to fill in the local labour market, especially during times of skills shortages.

To harness these benefits, employers need a carefully considered global mobility strategy, but complexities such as constantly changing migration laws can make this challenging.

Interstaff’s visa tools can assist you in navigating migration shifts, processes, and compliance factors to build a robust global mobility strategy. Should you require specialist immigration advice, we encourage you to contact Interstaff’s Registered Migration Agents.

    Australia’s Skilled Migration Landscape

The Government’s Migration Strategy Outline has identified four major policy changes to address Australia’s future skills requirements:

    1. Prioritising the people we need
    2. Making the migration system simple and efficient
    3. Delivering outcomes for migrants post-arrival
    4. Restoring integrity, fairness and inclusion

These strategic shifts are reflected in the establishment of Australia’s main temporary employer-sponsored program – the 482 Skills in Demand Visa. Further reforms, particularly to Regional and Specialist Migration pathways are also expected to align with the Migration Strategy.

Below are key visa tools and resources to support employers navigating Australia’s evolving skilled migration landscape.

    • The 482 Skills in Demand (SID) Visa and National Innovation Visa

    Visa and Sponsorship Compliance Tools

Under Australian immigration laws, employers of Subclass 482 and 494 Visa holders must meet several sponsorship obligations. For example, is your business aware of:

    • The events that require notification to the Department of Home Affairs
    • What records you are obliged to keep
    • When you must pay travel costs
    • The authorised contact the Department has on record

On 1 July 2024, the Migration Amendment (Strengthening Employer Compliance) Act 2024 (Cth) came into effect. Under the changes, employers of visa holders are now held to greater accountability for non-compliance with visa and sponsorship obligations.

Interstaff’s Visa Tools can help you understand your obligations.

Enhancing Workforce Strategy with Regional and Specialist Visa Programs

Regional and specialist visa programs, though less commonly used than standard employer-sponsored pathways, offer targeted solutions for attracting and retaining talent for hard-to-fill technical and specialist roles—positions that are often excluded from mainstream visa options and subject to intense global competition.

Join Sheila Woods from Interstaff at the 2025 WA HR Leadership Summit, as she shares how these programs can support your organisation’s broader workforce strategy over the next five years.
